Yes, but people DO listen

milkglassmao:

Yes, yes, I post a lot of Mark Kozelek and no one ever listens to the audio posts anyway.

Well, we all should listen to the audio posts more, methinks, myself included. Not just because I want everyone to like what I like, mind you, I think it gives a really good perspective into the people that post them. And it’s cool to find stuff you like due to people you like.

I agree with this, but I don’t think it’s the case that no one listens. I recently enabled play counts in my theme, and my audio posts get hundreds of plays. Sometimes they get more plays than I have followers, which is unsettling. But what they don’t get is lots of “likes.”

I think the problem is that the Tumblr Dashboard encourages people to keep scrolling while they listen, and people don’t remember to scroll back up and click the heart if they enjoyed the song.

Tumblr could fix this by making audio posts play in a pop-up, or in some new player interface that sticks to the top of the browser. That would make it easier to remember what you’re listening to, who posted it, and so forth. Which I’ll admit is a challenge at my age after four or five minutes of numbly scrolling past Zooey pics and Last.fm Top Fives. I have enough trouble keeping the drool off my keyboard, especially on humid days when my cankers act up. Who is this?
