The sad state of copy editing these days

Tracy and other administrators said the books took up too much space and that there was nowhere else on campus to stock them.

Oh, man. What an unintentionally hilarious quote. Let me fix it:

Tracy and other administrators said there was too much empty space on campus not taken up by books.

They went on, “Get rid of all the books? Heavens no. Why would we do that? Then we’d be little more than an accredited Starbucks with overpaid administrators.”

Makes much more sense now, doesn’t it? Because the other thing would be completely insane.
