“Jungle Jazz” by Kool & The Gang, an improvisation based on the “Jungle Boogie” theme. From the extraordinary Spirit of the Boogie album (1975), which is long since out of print and impossible to find in a legal digital format. If you have a turntable, the vinyl edition is well worth the $10 or so it will cost you on eBay, but copies of the CD sell for upwards of $90. A few of the tracks can be found in compilations.
When there were still record stores, notched $1.99 Kool & The Gang CDs were a bargain-bin fixture, yet their best stuff remains inexplicably unavailable. So enjoy this glorious tune, but shed a single funky tear.
